Tue 9.9.202512 Steps Away from Familiar Ground
Erno Pennanen’s solo show 12 Steps Away from Familiar Ground examines change and reorganization on a conceptual and developmental level. Pennanen has been building a new basis for his painting by exploring color combinations based on simultaneous color contrasts, and by focusing more on the usage of spatial layers formed by the traces he uses in painting. The paintings explore the topics of existing and growth. The central theme is the questions of attachment and letting go. In the paintings, these questions are portrayed through people, windows, and “higher power” that the artist has attached to horses.
Erno Pennanen is a Helsinki-based artist whose paintings reveal intense narrative, moods and situations. The way he paint his works is based on the exploration of light and shadow and form through color combinations.
He gratueted with an MFA from the Academy of Fine Arts, Helsinki, in 2023. His works are, among others, in private collections and the collections of The Finnish National Gallery. Thank you Finnish Cultural Foundationnfor supporting artist’s work.
