Hiding places

Untouched nature is rare nowadays. Many of us have distanced ourselves from pristine forests, islands, and wild meadows untouched by human hands. Therefore, we often perceive managed commercial forests as more vibrant than difficult-to-access forests in various stages of decay. Natural environments that have completed their full life cycle provide hiding places for millions of species within the hollows of dead tree trunks and amidst the safety of grasses.

Intensive forest use, such as clear-cutting, diminishes biodiversity, endangering populations of species. A dried plant is not useless—on the contrary, it is beautiful. In our work, we emphasize the beauty of dead plants and the importance of biodiversity, challenging the aesthetic boundaries associated with plants. We aim to expand the possibilities of floristry and break the illusion of naturalness in the flower industry.

Most of the flowers purchased in Finland are artificially grown in greenhouses in Europe and other distant countries such as Kenya and Ethiopia. The production process for many Finnish consumers’ bouquets involves airplane emissions, human rights violations, flower waste, and toxic pesticides, which are commonplace in the flower industry.

Studio Frön’s mission is to create a more sustainable flower industry based on sustainable practices, local flower seasons, and the Slow Flower ideology. In Slow Flower cultivation, organic methods are used, benefiting both the soil and its inhabitants. Slow-growing field flowers provide important insect hotels for bees and other insects.

“Hiding places” is a tribute to stark, beautiful, and untouched nature. Enjoy a moment with the artwork and discover your own hiding place within it.

Jenni (Creative Director & Founder) and Anni (Head of Events & Design), the wonder children of floristry at Studio Frön, are responsible for the floral arrangements. Studio Frön’s services include venue decorations, subscription services, PR deliveries, events, and flower workshops. Emma (Marketing & Admin Coordinator) ensures the brand’s visibility and smooth operations.
